DS-5 Community Edition
Getting started using the Eclipse update site
Follow these simple steps to install ARM® Development Studio 5 Community Edition plugins into an existing Eclipse installation.
1. Download Eclipse
If you have Eclipse installed on your system, make sure it is version 4.4.2 (Luna) or above. In addition, CDT version should be 8.5.0 or higher.
It is recommended that you download and install Eclipse IDE for C/C++ Developers. However, Eclipse Classic and Eclipse IDE for Java Developers can also be used.
The bitness of your Eclipse (32-bit or 64-bit) must match the bitness of your Java installation (32/64-bit). Java 8 is the minimum supported version.
Note DS-5 Community Edition is supported on the following systems:
- Windows 7 Professional service pack 1 (32/64-bit)
- Windows 7 Enterprise service pack 1 (32/64-bit)
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 Desktop with Workstation option, Standard (32/64-bit) [Note: Deprecated platform - Support will be removed in a future DS-5 release]
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 Workstation (32/64-bit)
- Ubuntu Desktop Edition 12.04 LTS (32/64-bit)
- Ubuntu Desktop Edition 14.04 LTS (64-bit only)
- Mac OS X 10.7 or 10.8 (64-bit only)
2. Install DS-5 Community Edition
Start Eclipse and go to “Install New Software...” in the Help menu. On the Installation dialog, click on “Add...”, type http://tools.arm.com/eclipse in the location text box, and click OK. Select ARM DS-5 Community Edition, as shown on the screenshot below, and click Next. Eclipse will compute the dependencies of the DS-5 CE plug-ins.
Depending on the Eclipse IDE package that you have installed, you may be asked to additionally install the CDT perspective and the RSE plug-in. If you require these additions, click Next to install DS-5 prerequisite packages.
Next, make sure you read and understand the terms on license agreement from both ARM and the Eclipse Foundation. If you accept the terms and conditions, click on “I accept...” and then Finish. This will take a few minutes to complete, depending on your Internet connection speed. When it finishes, restart your IDE.
If this is the first time using DS-5, a license dialog will popup. Select "Install Community edition license" and click "Continue".
If there was no popup license message, it can be opened from the "Help" menu. Choose "Generate community edition license", and click "Finish".
Once completed, the license manager can be closed as the product is ready to use.
4. Start using
